Finney County Sheriff Will Not Hold ICE Detainees Indefinitely

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The American Civil Liberties Union has sent a letter to 10 sheriffs in Kansas warning them of a potential lawsuit stemming from recent court decisions in Oregon and Pennsylvania.  If a suspect is arrested on another charge, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement on ICE will check on the name in their database.

ACLU Attorney Doug Bonney says that is unconstitutional.  Finney County Sheriff Kevin Bascue issued this statement, “Immigration holds will be honored when our office receives a Notice to Appear or other document, or an arrest warrant for removal proceedings has been served.” Ford and Seward Counties are facing a similar decision on whether to honor these requests from ICE without documentation.
