Finney County Fatal Accident

The Finney County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 at approx. 2:00 p.m. Finney County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an accident in the 5600 block of W. Jones. It appears
that a 2011 Chevy P.U. driven by 29 year old Victor Chanocua-Melgarejo was
east bound on Jones Ave. A 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by 33 year old
Nimo Mohamed was west bound on Jones Ave. The Pontiac Grand Am crossed over
the center line for unknown reasons and hit the P.U. head on. The driver of
the Pontiac Grand Am, Nimo Mohamed of Garden City was deceased at the
scene. A passenger in the Pontiac Grand Am, 29 year old Yasin Gedi of
Garden City was also deceased at the scene. A second passenger in the Grand
Am, 22 year old Abdulkadir Moalim of Garden City, was seriously injured and
transported to St. Catherines hospital by Ambulance and later transported
to St. Francis hospital in Wichita.

The driver of the P.U. was not seriously injured. It appears that all
occupants except Mr. Gedi were wearing their seatbelts. Both vehicles were
totally destroyed.
