Finney County falls short
Garden City, Ks (westernkansasnews)-If Finney County coach Lyle Befort was preaching to the congregation, his message would ring loud and clear: defense wins championships. It may sound cliche, but it defined the Blues 12-1 run-rule loss to Grand Junction in the semifinals of the Clanton Memorial Tournament on Sunday morning at Williams Stadium.
“You have to play defense behind your pitcher,” Befort said. “Especially if he’s giving you ground balls and fly balls.”
That message was drowned in four Blues’ error, and by the time Finney County looked up, they had dug themselves a four-run deficit.
“We’ve got about a week and a half to get our stuff together,” Befort said. “Hopefully we can get it going.”
Next up: Finney County travels to Colorado Springs on Thursday for a doubleheader (1:30 pm; 6 pm)
