Felker named Lady Beaver basketball coach

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Scott City didn’t have to look far in finding a new head coach to take over the girls basketball program. Scott Community High School math teacher Amy Felker was approved by the USD 466 Board of Education at a special meeting on Monday.

Felker comes in with plenty of experience under her belt. She was the head coach at Dighton for 17 seasons, before stepping away after the 2018-19 season. While coaching her hometown, she put up a coaching record of 241-152, leading her alma mater to the state tournament five times, including a state championship in 2016 in Class 1A, Division II, a third place finish in 2014 in Class 1A, Division II, and a fourth place finish in 2009 in Class 1A.

Coming off a successful high school career in Dighton, Felker played at Seward County Community College under now Oklahoma State Cowgirl coach Jim Littell, and played for Jeff Carter at Friends University for the final two years of college.

She replaces Sarah McCormick, who resigned earlier in April, led Scott City to four consecutive state tournaments, and had a 77-42 record in her five seasons.
