Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) They are the people you never see, but rely upon everyday.  In a room filled with computers and with all the latest information at their fingertips the National Weather Service comes up with the forecast for our region.  To be successful, staff meteorologist Larry Ruthi says you have to hold a world view.

Ruthi believes our geographical area makes predicting the weather difficult at times.

Snowfall can vary from 6 or more inches in one county to a dusting elsewhere.  Even though some people complain about the snow, we really need the moisture.  Kansas and mid-America has experienced near drought conditions the last several year.  There is reason for hope that this year could be different.

Ruthi believes some scientific data coming back from the Pacific Ocean ties in with a chance to have more precipitation this year.
