Elwood Keith Holtfrerich

Elwood Keith Holtfrerich, 86, died August 31, 2015 at Brookdale Senior Living Solutions in Dodge City. He was born on June 8, 1929 in Scott City, the son of Charley A. and Thelma F. (Gunckel) Holtfrerich. 

Elwood was a lifetime resident of Dodge City. He graduated from Dodge City High School in 1947 and went on to continue his education at Dodge City Community College, graduating with an Associates of Fine Arts Degree in 1949. Elwood was a standout basketball player for the Dodge City Red Demons and at Dodge City Community College, playing with the same group all the way from grade school through JUCO. He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1950 to 1958. On May 21, 1971, he married Agnes B. Knoeber in Dodge City. She survives. Elwood worked in the parts department for Scheffler’s Automotive Supply and later for BRC Bearing both of Dodge City. He enjoyed all sports and was active in the Dodge City Red Demon Booster Club. 

Elwood is survived by his wife, Agnes of Dodge City; two brothers, Maurice and wife Norma of Tempe, Arizona and Gordon Holtfrerich of Dodge City; two sisters, Carol Scullawl of Port Orchard, Washington and Karen Horst of Holiday Island, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joyce Gebhart and Jean Bone. 

Graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Dodge City Red Demon Basketball Booster Club in care of the funeral home.
