Elliott named to Top 11
Garden City, KS-Garden City High School defensive lineman Demarcus Elliott was named to the Kansas Football Coach’s Association Top 11 team. He also landed on the Class 6A all-state first team with teammate David Arteaga.
Elliott enjoyed an unbelievable senior campaign, registering 81 tackles, including 18.5 for loss. His best performance of his final season came on the biggest stage, recording 14 tackles in an upset victory over Topeka in the second round of the 6A playoffs.
“Demarcus will go down as one of the best defensive players to ever come through this program,” Buffaloes Coach Brian Hill said.
Arteaga won’t be too far behind.
The senior will arguably live on as the best utility players the school has ever deployed.
Arteaga started the season at defensive back, then was pressed into duty as a wide receiver after injuries sidelined Andrew Kreutzer and Jordan Herrman. He ended the season with 303 receiving yards and four touchdowns; played quarterback in the fourth quarter of Garden City’s opening-round playoff victory over Topeka Washburn Rural and totaled 72 tackles, three interceptions and one forced fumble.
