Elite pounded on final day of TOC

Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-For Garden City moving forward, there’s one thing they took away from their weekend stint in Colorado: they’ve improved significantly in 365 days despite getting whacked in the finale.

For the first time all summer on Sunday, Garden City (13-2) was outhit and outpitched in a 15-2 loss to Loaf N’ Jug-a prep team from Pueblo.

“Even though we went 2-2 in this deal, I feel we got so much better,” Head Coach Lyle Befort said afterwards. “We really came with better bats this year.”

That was definitely the case on Friday and Saturday but not on Sunday. The Elite were held to just six hits–none after the third inning.

Meantime the pitching couldn’t hold the fort. Thomas Solorio allowed 11 runs on six hits in 2 1/3 innings of work while Isaiah Rodriguez lasted just 1 2/3-yielding four runs on four hits.

“I feel we’re right there,” Befort said. “As long as these kids get better that’s all I can ask for.”
