Edna Thurston, 91, died Thursday, July 2, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Dodge City. 

She was born August 12, 1923 at Delta, Colorado, the daughter of Walter Brian and Martha Eveline (Cook) Every. She was a homemaker and mother as well as a cook at the Natoma High School, the nursing home in Plainville and an in home caregiver. 

She was a member the American Legion Auxiliary for over 40 years and enjoyed crafts, woodworking, gardening, sewing and quilting. 

On March 3, 1940 she married Chester “Earl” Thurston at Delta, Colorado. He preceded her in death on September 18, 1997. 

Survivors include: 5 daughters, Nellie Maupin and husband Johnny, Dodge City, Earline Simpson and husband Stu, Wichita, Norma Stroemel and husband Doug, Shell Knob, Missouri, Elaine Anderson and husband Jay, McPherson, Kansas and Pam Thurston, Inman, Kansas; 1 brother, Albert Every, Clermont, Florida; 1 sister, Clara Beyler and husband Doc, Fruita, Colorado; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Robert Earl Thurston, a son, Marvin Thurston and a granddaughter, Wendy Stull. 

Memorial services will be Noon Friday, July 17, 2015 at the American Legion, Natoma, with Rev. Dick Robbins officiating and a luncheon following. Burial will be in the Norman Cemetery in rural Ellis County. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place. 

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of the Prairie or the American Cancer Society both in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
