Ed Ybarra, age 79, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Monday, September 16, 2019, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita. Kansas.  He was born October 17, 1939, in Lubbock, Texas, the son of Crispin and Josefina (Gomez) Ybarra.

Ed grew up in Munday, Texas.  In 1964 he moved to Ulysses, Kansas, and went to work for Willard Higgs and later Ansel Manufacturing, Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital and eventually retired from Williams Natural Gas.  Ed was an active member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He loved baseball and football and was a little league coach. Ed was a hard worker, but he always made time to play catch or shoot baskets with his children and grandchildren. He was also a great storyteller and enjoyed working in his yard and garden.  

On November 5, 1957, Ed married Corina Velasquez in Munday, Texas. She survives.   

Other survivors include one daughter; Debra Maupin and husband Bob of Ulysses, one son; Michael Ybarra and Vanessa of Ulysses, one daughter-in-law; Paula Ybarra of Ulysses, two brothers; Candido Ybarra of Ulysses and Juan Ybarra of Phoenix, Arizona, six grandchildren; Zac Ybarra and wife Cody, Joshua Ybarra, Chelsea Reyes and husband Ariel, Tia Ybarra, Lydia Glover and Royce Glover, and 4 great-grandchildren; Ripley Ybarra, Ronin Ybarra, Easton Chavez and Zahli Reyes. 

Ed is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; Reymundo Mata, Epifanio Mata,  Domingo Mata and Alberto Mata, three sisters; Tiodora Rodriguez, Maria Ybarra and Guadalupe Diaz, and one great-granddaughter; Ezri Chavez Ybarra.  

Vigil and rosary service will be Thursday, September 19, 2019, at 7:30 PM and Funeral Mass will be Friday, September 20, 2019, at 11:00 AM both at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Reverend Aneesh Parappanattu, MSFS officiating. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, September 19, 2019, from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.  Memorial contributions may be given to Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church or Harry Hynes Hospice, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W.
