Economic Development Pleased Power Plant Can Move Forward

Holcomb, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has approved changes to an air pollution permit allowing Sunflower Electric to start construction on a 2.8 billion dollar coal fired power plant in Holcomb. The new plant is expect to generate 895 megawatts of power. Lona Duvall President of the Finney County Economic Development Corporation is happy this project can now move forward.

Duvall believes this should invite more businesses into Southwest Kansas.

If the plant goes through with any legal delays, the new facility is expected to make an immediate economic impact.

Friday’s news comes before Monday’s announcement that the Environmental Protection Agency wants to curb carbon emissions from coal fired power plants by thirty percent in the next 15 years.
