Dunk fest; Busters stomp On Point

Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Jeremy Wilson scored 21 points and Miles Banks pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds as Garden City Community College raced to a 77-54 win Sunday at the Perryman Athletic Complex. It was the Busters’ 11th straight victory.
“We knew it would be a slow start,” Head Coach Brady Trenkle said after the game. “We’re going on only two days of practice, but it was a good game for us; it was a good win.”
The two-week long break showed throughout the first half with the busters shooting just 13-for-33 at the half. But Trenkle’s bunch scorched the nets in the final the 20 minutes-going 15-for-28 (54 percent)
Wilson who turned the afternoon into his own personal dunk fest, scoring 12 second-half points, including two fast-break slams.
After trailing 22-11 early on, On-Point Academy (3-10) made a run, cutting the Buster lead to two. But Garden City (14-2) responded late to take a 35-28 lead into the locker room. Then in the second half, it wasn’t even close.
The Garden City defense smothered On Point, holding the visiting squad to just 9-of-30 from the floor in the final 20 minutes and 36 percent shooting for the game.
Luka Pavlovic led On Point with 13 points-he was the only player in double figures.
