Colorado Springs, Co (westernkansasnews)-The day started with a chance at a title. It ended with a 12-7 win over La Mesa, NM in the third-place game of the Colorado Springs Tournament on Sunday.

“This is the time that we need to be hitting our stride,” Blues coach Lyle Befort Said. “It’s the only way we’ll get through zone into state.”

Finney County (24-8) found themselves just seven innings from the championship game. But the wheels fell off in a 12-0, run-rule loss to the Denver Hit Streak in the semifinals.

“Isaiah Rodriguez got hit pretty hard,” Befort said. “Nothing else to say about that.”

The Blues bounced back nicely in game two, thanks to a solid relief effort from Ivan Gutierrez.

“He (Ivan) really came in and shut them down after they scored seven runs,” Befort said.

Finney finished the tournament 3-2; they’re back home Wednesday for a doubleheader with Lamar, Co.
