Dominating Homecoming Victory for the GCHS Buffaloes Over Liberal-Audio
Garden City, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – After a close first half in their Homecoming Football game last Friday night with Liberal, the Garden City Buffaloes made the necessary adjustments and dominated the second half to beat the Redskins 37-14. In the first 24 minutes of play, the Buffales started quick scoring on two of their first three possessions taking a 13-0 lead off the passing and legs of their junior quarterback Greyson Tempel. The first score came with 7:29 left in the first quarter, when Greyson hit twin brother Dustin Tempel for a 30 yard touchdown pass but the the kick failed and the Buffs were up 6-0, and then early in the 2nd period, Greyson Tempel scampered around the left end for a 14 yard touchdown run, the PAT was added by senior kicker Rudy Chavez for a 13-0 lead. Liberal would come back with a 91 yard drive of their own, capped by a 2 yard run by junior quarterback Britton Abbott to make it 13-7 game Buffaloes. Tempel would again hook-up on a 27 yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Jonthan Duvall and the Garden City was in control 19-7. However, another 80 yard drive by the Redskins would yield another 2 yard touchdown run by Abbott with :49 seconds left in the half, the time ran out and the Buffs lead was just five 19-14 at the break. A dominating defense and great offensive production in the second half along with the kicking game led Garden City to three more scores a defensive shutout and a 37-14 win.
