Dodge City women advance to region championship

The Dodge City Community College women’s basketball team led wire-to-wire in their 67-58 semifinal win over the Butler Grizzlies on Friday afternoon.
The Conquistadors were led in scoring by sophomore forward Shorna Preston, who had 17 points and 12 rebounds. Layla-J Cameron also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists.
Despite going just 9-of-18 from the free throw line and being outrebounded 42-38 by the Grizzlies, Dodge City remained in control. They made five first quarter three-pointers, and finished 10-of-32 from downtown.
Dodge City will play in the championship game tomorrow at 3 p.m. on KSKZ (Z98) with pregame starting at 2:40. They will play the winner of Hutchinson and Coffeyville, both of which the Conquistadors split the season series.
