Both Dodge City High School basketball teams went 1-1 as they hosted Manhattan on Friday night and Junction City on Saturday.

On Friday night Manhattan defeated the Lady Demons 66-22 in a contest that got out of sorts quickly for Dodge City. However, they responded with a 67-22 win the next day against Junction City.

The Lady Demons were led by senior forward Tatum Steiner in the win over the Blue Jays, as she scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record the double double.

Friday night was a magical night in the Fieldhouse as head coach Jeff Williamson got his first victory at Dodge City, coming from a buzzer-beater from Senior Anthony Perez. Dodge City was down 56-54 with 3.6 seconds left when they inbounded from underneath the basket. Perez got it into Nathan Shulte, who handed it back to Perez in the corner for him to knock down the clutch jumper.

Against Junction City, the Demons had a harder time, allowing for the pair of Jackson Austin and Lovell Autry to combine for 46 points in the loss. Junction City went on a 14-0 run to begin the fourth quarter, which put the game away. The Blue Jays coasted to an 81-49 finish as the Demons dropped to 1-2.

Both teams now will look to Tuesday night when they take on Woodward beginning at 6 p.m. on Z98.
