DCPD

Dodge City, Kan.–The Dodge City Police Department has announced the arrest of a man after a robbery over the weekend.

Just after 4 am Saturday morning, officers from the Dodge City Police Department responded to a reported robbery at the Circle K Market, located at 609 S 2nd. The caller informed dispatch that a male suspect, dressed in all black, entered the store, pointed a handgun at an employee, and demanded money. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

Within a minute of receiving the call, officers arrived in the area. They were approached by a passerby who reported seeing a person, matching the description of the suspect, running in the area. With the assistance of deputies from the Ford County Sheriff’s Office, officers quickly located the individual, later identified as 21-year-old Rolando Guzman-Apodaca, and took him into custody without further incident.

A subsequent search of the area where Guzman-Apodaca was found yielded a large sum of cash and a loaded firearm, both matching the descriptions provided by witnesses. The investigation into the robbery is ongoing, and Guzman-Apodaca has been arrested in connection with the crime.

On Monday, Guzman-Apodaca had a first appearance hearing at the Ford County District Court, where he was charged with Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Theft. On Tuesday, Guzman-Apodaca was released after posting $35,000 cash/surety bond.

The DCPD would like to extend our gratitude to the passerby who came forward with helpful information, as well as the Ford County Sheriff’s Office for their timely assistance in apprehending the suspect. This arrest demonstrates the important role that community members and law enforcement partners play in keeping our city safe.

Please note, as with all criminal cases, the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
