Dodge City Police offering active shooter defense training

Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City Police Department is offering active shooter training to all businesses and organizations in Dodge City. The training is free and takes about two hours to go through.

DCPD use the A.L.I.C.E. training protocol to teach people how to handle active shooter situations. A.L.I.C.E. stands for Alert-Lockdown-Inform-Counter-Evacuate. The program is taught across the country to schools and businesses. Comanche Middle School Resource Officer Lisa Lima says the training takes people through a lockdown scenario.

“We do an enhanced lockdown where people are asked to barricade and create a stronger barrier to keep a bad guy out of their office or classroom. Another scenario we go through is an evacuation, so people can now how long it takes them to evacuate. Then we do one where we have to counter if people don’t have an option to evacuate or lockdown, we teach them to fight back to increase their survivability,” said Lima.
