Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City Police Department has been awarded their fourth AAA Kansas Traffic Safety Award for 2016.

For the second straight year they were given a platinum award, which is the highest award AAA gives a law enforcement agency.

The department was recognized for their participation in the SAFE program at Dodge City High School, and providing education and information to students on DUI, texting and seatbelts.

In the enforcement category they were recognized for their enforcement efforts with Impaired Driving Deterrence Program and in the engineering category they were awarded for their speed indicators and use of KDOT traffic enforcement signs.

Seat belt use is above state average, and teen crashes, alcohol crashes and fatalities have all been reduced over the last six years.
