Dodge City nominated as one of 10 Best Historic Small Towns in US
Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Dodge City has been nominated by USA Today as one of the 10 Best Historic Small Towns in the country. Dodge is one of 20 nominees for the honor.
USA Today describes the criteria for the award as have big histories and small populations – fewer than 30,000 people as of the last census – making them fun and affordable ways to dive into our nation’s past.
Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Jan Stevens says their excited about the nomination.
“We’re one of those iconic communities that has a rich history, western history for us and we really showcase that in our community,” said Stevens.
Even some of the newer attractions in Dodge tap into the history of the city.
“Our new waterpark and casino are both new builds,” said Stevens, “both have embraced our Western history, if you go to the casino you see a Western theme, you go to the waterpark it’s called Long Branch Lagoon, so you see that historic theme carried throughout our community.”
Among the other nominees for the honor are Deadwood, South Dakota, Fredericksburg, Texas and Williamsburg, Virginia.
