DODGE CITY, Kan. — The Dodge City High School Red Demons opened the 2021 portion of their schedule on Friday night by hosting the Colby Eagles out of the Great West Activities Conference.

No. 8 Dodge City girls 62, Colby 37
The eighth ranked Lady Demon girls got off to a rough start against the Eagles and found themselves down 12-10 after the first quarter, but would use a dominant second quarter in which they outscored Colby 23-2 to create some separation and lead 33-14 at the break.

That second quarter and midway through the third quarter run in which they outscored the guests, 33-2 was the difference coach Kelley Snodgrass and company would need. Dodge City is now 6-0 on the season, and for the first time in program history since the 1920-21 season, 100 years ago.

Dodge City was able to use their depth again to their advantage as Colby played all five starters for the entire first half, and rarely used a sub until the fourth quarter of the game, as the Lady Demons’ reserves outscored Colby 10-0. The Lady Demons also overcame a 30% shooting performance in the first quarter to shoot 59% from the field, and now have shot 48% or better in all six games this season. Lauren Gleason assisted on five made field goals to lead the team, as they accounted for 19 in the game on 24 made shots.

Kisa Unruh, the program’s all-time leading scorer has now also tied the school’s record for 3-point field goals made in a career with 157 accounted for. She led the Lady Demons effort with 17 points, while Gleason poured in 12. Colby was led by Brooklyn Jones’ 26 points.

Dodge City will travel south to Guymon, Oklahoma to take on the Tigers on Tuesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30pm, with pregame coverage starting at 6:15pm from the Oklahoma panhandle.
