Dodge City Girls Hammer Haysville Campus For Substate Win
Dodge City, KS (westerkansasnews.com) The Dodge City High School Girls Basketball team left no doubt they were ready for substate to begin. Paced by a 17-7 first quarter and dishing out 18 assists, the Lady Red Demons won their opener 58-23 over Haysville Campus beating them for the second straight year and closing in on their first state appearance since 2010.
Highlghts
Jessie Harshberger led the way for Dodge City with 20 points (9-14 FG), six rebounds and six steals in pushing along the offense. Senior Bailey Shelor had 11 points and Macie Price added two three’s in the final minute of the first half to finish with eight points.
The defense also stepped up on Campus holding Colts leading scorer Cheyenne Bosley to four points from the free throw line, six points below her season average at 0-10 from the field. Alexis Hunter and Matty Donaldson both had five each off the Colts bench to lead the team in scoring.
Campus never found a rhythm outside going 0-9 from three in shooting 23 percent from the field at 7-30. Dodge City went 49 percent at 25-51 from the field, 4-7 beyond the arc and 5-13 for the game.

With the win Dodge City is now 16-5 and has won eight straight coming into Friday night’s substate final with Wichita Northwest (10-11) a 53-35 winner over Wichita North.
