Dodge City Central Ave Reconstruction phase 1
DODGE CITY, Kansas. — The City of Dodge City’s Central Ave Reconstruction project is scheduled to start Monday, July 9, 2018. This project will be divided in to various phases of construction.
Phase 1 of the project will be to connect the new waterline to the existing waterline in the intersection of Central Ave. and Comanche St. To accomplish this the intersection will be closed for approximately two weeks. Subsequent phases are approximately the length of one block and will take an estimated 2 months to complete the work for each phase.
“We plan to complete Phases 1 through 7 by mid-March, which will put us at Oak Street and the north side of Central Elementary,” said Ryan Scott, Construction Manager for Building Solutions. “Once we have completed through to Phase 7, we will shut down construction until school is out for the summer months.”
Central Ave. will be closed to through traffic where construction is taking place. However during Phase 1; businesses along Central Ave will be accessible, and detour routes have been established.
“Due to the length of the project, media releases will be sent out periodically as work progresses with the phases,” said Abbey Martin, Public Information Specialist for the City of Dodge City. “The best way to get more frequent updates will be to follow the City on Facebook or subscribe to our weekly Community Newsletter through our website.”
A preliminary schedule is available to view, though keep in mind is subject to change. All phases of construction will consist of (in order):
- Setting up of traffic control to close the selected block(s) of Central Ave
- Removal of previously selected trees
- Removal of brick street, concrete sidewalks & driveways
- Excavation & installation of new sewer and water lines
- Placement of new subgrade
- Placement of new curb & gutter
- Placement of new driveways & sidewalks
- Placement of new street paving
