District implications on the line as Scott City hosts Colby

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Two of the top teams in western Kansas meet up tonight with District 8 title implications on the line meet up at Darner Field, as Scott City hosts Colby on Senior Night. Both teams have been similar teams, and have identical records at 6-0 overall, 3-0 in District 8 play, and both have the max amount of district points at a plus-63.

Colby is off to their best start since 1990, after a 44-0 win at Russell last Friday night at Shaffer Field. The game was called at halftime due to storms in the area. The Eagles soared out to a 28-0 lead after the first quarter, and pushed it to 44-0 at the break. Jordan Schippers, one of the top athletes in the state, threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more, while Calvin Stapp added two total touchdowns and over 100 yards rushing. This year, the Eagles are averaging 41.3 points a game, while rolling up just over 400 yards per game, with a little over 350 on the ground. Calvin Stapp leads the team with 11 rushing touchdowns and over 600 yards on the ground. Schippers has over 500 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns as the teams quarterback. Defensively, Colby is giving up around 180 yards per game and just under 14 points a contest.

Scott City is 6-0 after a 55-12 road win at Beloit last Thursday night at Trojan Field. The Beavers scored on five of seven possessions in the first half, and led 34-12 at the half. They scored on their first three drives of the second half in the win. Wyatt Hayes had a career-high five touchdowns to go along with hist 174-yard performance, as the Beavers put up nearly 300 yards of rushing and close to 500 total yards of offense. Parker Gooden threw for 174 yards in the win, with a touchdown and connected with five different receivers. This year, the Beavers average 46 points a game and have put up almost 400 yards of offense per game. The defense has allowed just over 100 yards per contest the first six games, and have surrendered just 3.2 points a game.

Scott City has won 14 consecutive in the series, and lead the series 27-15. Last year, the Beavers won 42-14 in a week seven game. The last win for Colby in the series was in 1999, when they won in Scott City 14-7.
