Demons Look For Win in Hutch to Keep Playoff Hopes Alive
Hutchinson, KS (westernkansasnews.com) In a word there is no turning back for the Dodge City football team. The Red Demons proved they could hang with the top ranked team in the state Wichita Northwest last week falling 52-33. This week Dodge City travels (4-3, 0-1 district) on the road to play Hutch (5-2, 0-1 district). Both teams will have a lot to prove in keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Coach Dave Foster hopes his team’s performance against the Grizzlies proved what he already knows.
The Salthawks have won 11 consecutive games in the series, but have a sour taste in their mouths after being held without an offensive touchdown in last week’s 14-2 loss to Garden City. Hutch dropped their record in conference games to 30-4 since the beginning of the 2000 season. A loss tonight and they might be shutout of the playoffs for only the second time in the last eleven year.
Cornelsen is calling on his defense to show up tonight.
For all the discussion about it being gut check time, Foster is turning to his veteran leadership for one last push to the playoffs.
Dodge City’s high powered offense is looking to play a complete game. The Demons have been held without an offensive touchdown the last two weeks scoring a field goal and two safeties. Kickoff is 7pm Friday night from Gowans Stadium.
