Demon Girls Even Record; Boys Remain Winless at Eisenhower
Goddard, KS (westernkansasnews.com) As the Dodge City High School Basketball team enters the holiday break one team is beginning to feel good about themselves and the other is searching for answers from a rough first four games.
The Lady Demons avenged a loss last year 52-51 to Goddard Eisenhower, beating the Lady Tigers 46-43 evening their mark at 2-2 and keeping Eisenhower winless at 0-4.
Girls Highlights
Dodge opened up Friday’s girls game on a 12-2 run. Tia Bradshaw sparked the Lady Demon offense reaching 20 points for the second straight game, hitting 6-of 18 shots and 6 of 7 from the line. Tia’s most significant contribution might have been on the other end of the floor. Bradshaw held the Lady Tigers Mallory Miller to 17 points, six short of her 23 in last year’s matchup.
Miller scored 9 points on 3-6 shooting (2-4 from 3) in the first quarter, She scored 8 the remainder of the game going 3-13 the rest of contest including 1-4 from beyond the arc.
Dodge City also the boards hard getting a 36-31 advantage off the glass. Four different players had 6 rebounds each from Bradshaw, Ashley Nelson, Kalyn Mapel (who played her first game in returning from injury) and Aneth Morales who grabbed seven boards and had two stick buckets in the second quarters.

The Dodge City boys were not as fortunate. The Red Demons were with 4 points at 12-8 at the end of the first quarter. Then the top ranked team in 5A outscored the Demons 19-5 in the second quarter and 23-15 in the third cruising to a 60-31 win.
Boys Highlights
The Demons have score 31 or 32 points in three of their 4 games this season and are off to their worst start at 0-4 since losing five straight to begin the 1983-84 season.
Dodge committed 20 turnovers and made only 4 shots in each half, hitting 32 percent of their shots at 8-25. Eisenhower sot 48 percent and attempted 21 more shots at 22-46.
Hunter Heath showed his ability to convert at the free throw going 9-of-10 and getting all his points at the stripe to lead the Demons in scoring. Heath also added six rebounds. Noah Sowers scored 8 in the loss.
Eisenhower was led by Nebraska-Omaha signee Matt Pile with 23 points and 9 rebounds (20 and 17 last year vs. Dodge). Junior guard Dylan Vincent scored 21 points. The Tigers big two hit a combined 15 of their 25 shots and out rebounded Dodge 26-19. The win also marked Eisenhower’s 14th straight win at home.

Dodge City will return to action Tuesday, January 3 when they play Great Bend at the Fieldhouse in Dodge.
