Demon Basketball Teams Sweeps Two in Garden City
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) There was a lot at stake for both the Dodge City and Garden City Basketball teams on Tuesday night. For Garden simply wanted their first win in conference. The Dodge girls needed a win to fend off the hard charging Great Bend Lady Panthers for first place, while the boys were looking to keep within striking distance of both Liberal and Hays and within one game of Wichita South for the top seed in substate.
Girls Highlights
In the girls game, Dodge City (12-5, 5-0) forced 40 Buffalo turnovers scoring 32 points off them and were able to cruise for a 47-25 win. The forty turnovers was the second best performance from Dodge City’s defense this season falling just three forced turnovers short of the 43 they grabbed against Junction City in the opener.
Jessie Harshberger led the way for Dodge City with 12 points, six rebounds and six steals and Brianna Bradshaw scored 8 points and had five steals. Dodge’s defense pitched a shutout in the first quarter to grab a 12-0 lead. Garden City (6-12, 0-6) star guard Abbie Dart was held scoreless, her lowest point total since December, a two point performance against Trinity.
DCHS Coach Kelley Snodgrass
Over to the boys game where Eric Reid matched a season high he had at Central Plains with six three pointers, going 6 of 8 from beyond the arc and finishing with a season high 21 points as Dodge City (8-9, 3-2) kept the heat on for both the WAC title and substate top seed with a 79-45 win. For the Red Demons it was their best offensive output this year in winning their third consecutive game.
Boys Highlights
Garden City’s Jared Koster had 16 points, but hit only six of twenty from the field and four of thirteen from past the three point line. The Red Demons also had a distinct advantage on the boards 38-21 thanks to a double-double from Noah Williams of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
