DCHS basketball teams sweep Cimarron
DODGE CITY, Kan. — The Dodge City High School basketball teams swept the Cimarron Bluejays on Friday night at United Wireless Arena. The Lady Demons defeated the Bluejays, 54-50 and the Demon boys team dominated Cimarron, 85-44.
The girls team shot a season-high 48 percent from the field in the win, led by sophomore Kisa Unruh’s 16 points. Freshman Camree Johnson added a career-high 12 points and also grabbed 7 rebounds in the win. Dodge City had 17 assists on their 21 made field goals, led by Unruh’s 5.
Dodge City led from the beginning and never trailed in the game. Cimarron was led by senior Taylor Jantz with 18 points and 5 rebounds.
The Red Demon boys team also led from the beginning and never trailed in the game and really turned on the hot shooting in the second quarter. After DC led 18-10 after the first quarter, they outscored Cimarron 26-12 in the second quarter to lead 44-22 at halftime.
The Demons kept up the intensity and opened the third quarter on a 28-2 run and would go into the final quarter leading 79-30 after they shot 64 percent from the field in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter saw a running clock and the Dodge City lead blossom up to 52 at one point. Dodge City had five players score in double figures, led by senior Adrian Mendoza’s 14 points. Senior Bowen Smith also added 13 for the Red Demons.
