DODGE CITY, Kan. — It had been a long time coming for the Dodge City Community College women’s basketball team. The Conquistadors had not beaten a team since January 10, 2005, a 77-58 win over then No. 3 Seward at the Civic Center. The streak of over 15 years came to an end for Coach Zach Loll and his program as they knocked off No. 6 Hutchinson, 69-55 at the Student Activity Center.
The Conqs came out of the gates on fire from the field in the first quarter of play, hitting three three-pointers in the first 10 minutes of play and setting the tone early on. Hutchinson was limited to just one made field goal in the first quarter and the Conqs would take a 16-8 lead into the second frame. The 3’s kept falling for the Conqs in the second quarter, as they would hit four more for a first half total of seven and that would lead to a 32-15 lead at the break.
Dodge City kept their foot down in the second half, as they’d build a 47-28 lead after three quarters and would sustain that in to the final period of play. Hutchinson would make a little run in the fourth quarter, but the big lead built early on by the Conqs was too tough for the Blue Dragons to come back from.
Next Up: The Conqs will host Garden City on Saturday afternoon inside the Student Activity Center. Pregame coverage begins at 12:45 p.m. with tip-off slated for 1:00 p.m. You can listen to the game on 98.1 FM locally, plus stream on the Tune In App (Search KSKZ) and westernkansasnews.com/z98.
