Not their day; Buffs bowling finishes 7th
Wichita, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Most people are happy to have their hair. For one Garden City coach, a full mop means no state championship.
Garden City bowling Coach Kip Nichols would have been just fine shaving his head; that’s the promise he made to his team if they hoisted hardware at North Rock Lanes.
“We were all over the place today,” Nichols said. “At practice, they bowled fine; not sure exactly what the problem was.”
Senior Jarrett Landgraff summed it up to inconsistency.
“Spares are a part of the game,” he said. “But at state, you have to have strikes. The competition level is so much greater than anytime during the season.”
That proved to be exactly what Garden City didn’t do-finishing seventh at the 6A state bowling tournament. Landgraff finished 24th individually.
Wichita Northwest rolled a 2757 to take the team state crown. Derby’s Noah Brooks was the individual state championship with a 734 series-beating out Olathe North’s Tristan Music by five pins.
On the girls side, sophomore Haley Park placed 36 while junior Alex Hemmart finished 26th.
