Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Over the last decade, the Scott City Cross Country team has had a good share of success. This year, the Beavers are preparing themselves for a step up in competition, with the assumed move to Class 4A. They started off practices Monday with two-a-days. Around 25 runners are out for the 2016 campaign.

Both the boys and girls teams return their top runners from the 2015 season. For the boys, senior Jess Drohman returns for a second year on the team, after placing 1oth in Class 3A last year. The boys team placed fourth overall. On the girls side, junior Makaela Stevens finished second in 3A as a sophomore, as the girls team was just nine points out of third place last year, finishing in fourth.

There is one change to their schedule this year. They will be running at Wamego this year on Saturday, September 10, to familiarize themselves with the course at Wamego, which is the host for the Class 4A State Cross Country meet.
