Critical Time to Keep Rail Service in Southwest Kansas
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) It may not look like much right now, but the future of rail service in Southwest Kansas is uncertain. State Representative John Doll says a key committee discussed the issue last week and the danger of losing a very important route from LA to Chicago.
The tracks are owned by Amtrak and Burlington Northern. There are also two new proposed routes for the Northern Flyer linking with the transcontinental railroad from the south. What’s needed now is money for repairs.
The decision needs to be made by the end of the year.
