Crash involving school bus in Meade County injures 16
Meade County, KS(westernkansasnews.com) A three vehicle crash that included a school bus caused 16 injuries, including 12 students in Meade County Monday afternoon.
The accident happened at 3:41 p.m. on U160 at Ontario St in Plains. The school bus failed to yield right of way to a semi and entered into the intersection to initiate a left turn to travel west on U160. The semi steered left (north) towards the ditch at the northeast corner of the intersection in an attempt to avoid the semi but the two vehicles collided with the front passenger side of the semi, impacting the front driver side of the school bus. Vehicle 3 steered towards the right (north) to avoid the collision between the bus and the semi. As the semi continued to travel towards the ditch at the northeast corner of the intersection the front passenger side of the semi impacted the front end of Vehicle 3.
The 82-year-old female bus driver from Plains was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for injuries. There were 19 passengers on the bus, 13 were injured, 12 students and a 59-year-old woman. All were treated at local hospitals.
A 43-year-old Garden City man was driving the semi, he was treated at Minneola Hospital for possible injuries.
A 37-year-old man from Plains was driving vehicle 3, he was treated at Meade Hospital for injuries. His passenger a 6-year-old girl was also treated for injuries at Meade Hospital.
