Conquistadors ranked No. 8 in preseason poll

Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-At one point during the last decade, there were cries to shutdown the Dodge City Community College football program. It was during a time where winless seasons were almost a given. 

In stepped Gary Thomas in 2013, and all the Conquistadors have done since is win. Last season, they wrapped up a share of the conference crown for the first time since 1983. It was also their first nine-win season since the early 60’s. 

All that notoriety landing Dodge City at No. 8 in the first NJCAA poll of the season. It’s their highest preseason ranking in program history.

“The polls that are important are the ones at the end of the season,” Thomas said. “But we’re humbled and honored to be in this position. We will try and replicate what we did last season.”

Dodge City opens the regular season on August 27 at Highland.
