Conq men win in controversy
DODGE CITY, KAN. — The outcome of Wednesday night’s game inside the Student Activities Center will be one that’s talked about all season long in the Jayhawk Conference. The DCCC Conqs defeated the Butler Grizzlies, 76-74, but it was the last play that will live forever.
The Grizzlies pulled within two after a dunk with 5 seconds remaining. Dodge City’s Trey Hill was then fouled on the in bounds play and would head to the free throw line for two shots. Hill missed the first one short and the second one was missed, as well. The Grizzlies got the rebound, had five seconds to work with and then this happened.

The Conqs held on for the 76-74 win in crazy fashion, as the Grizzlies were irate with the call. Players were being held back, as Butler coach Bryan Miller and other players stormed after the officials. It was one of the craziest finishes you’ll see in college basketball this season in Kansas.

With the win the Conqs improve to 6-5 and 1-2 in Jayhawk Conference play. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Conqs. UniQue Mency led the way with the Conqs, as he finished with 24 points on seven made three-pointers. Mency got the crowd going late in the game when they trailed and was a big part in the win for the Conqs. Jyrus Freels added 16 points and 11 rebounds for Dodge City. The Conqs shot 39 percent from the field and made 11-of-23 three-point shots in the win.
Coach Steve Tucker was amped up all night and even led the crowd in a “Defense” chant, as the Dome was rocking.
