Confidence high for returning SCHS Cross Country teams
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Even though this year’s Scott City Cross Country teams has only three seniors, one girl and two boys, optimism is running high for the 2015 season.
In their first week of practices, the 23 Beaver runners have high expectations for the year, following their fifth place finish for the boys in the 3A State meet, while the girls finished in fourth in 2014 in 3A.
The boys return two of their top runners in seniors Dylan Hutchins and Irvin Lozano, and have added depth to their roster this year. Around 13 boys will by vying for the top seven varsity positions.
For the girls, the same could be said. Just like last year, the Lady Beavers had one senior in their lineup that captured a league title, and have added more runners to assure themselves of a full team again. Sophomore Makaela Stevens is the returning top runner for Scott City, placing seventh at state as a freshman.
One of the biggest questions this year is if they will be in Class 3A or Class 4A for the 2015 season.
