City Commission Backs Plan for New Corrections Building, Withholds Financial Help
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) At Tuesday’s meeting the Garden City commission pledged their support for a ¼ penny sales tax extension to build a new juvenile services and corrections building, but declined to give an amount or percentage on their share of tax revenue to help the county finance the building. Finney County Commissioner Roman Halbur wonders if that means the county is left to hold the bag.
Voters are likely to make the decision in March. With financial help the county can pay off the facility in four years, but without it’ll take the county nine years to get out of the hole.
