Cimarron set to join GWAC
Scott City, KS—Member schools of the Great West Activities Conference are pleased to announce the addition of Cimarron as its newest member to the league. Cimarron will officially become a member of the GWAC in the 2020-21 season. They notified the Hi-Plains League on Wednesday, April 24, on their decision to leave the league after the 2019-20 season.
“We are excited to add Cimarron to the Great Western Athletic Conference.” GWAC President Marty Lehman said. “Their size, location, and competitiveness will fit perfectly into an already very good league. The sports and activities in which they offer are in line to what the GWAC is all about. It was a perfect fit.”
In a recent GWAC meeting, member schools voted to accept the application to join the league from Cimarron. This will make the Great West Activities Conference a seven-member school, joining charter members Colby, Goodland, Holcomb, Hugoton, Scott City and Ulysses.
This is the first addition to the Great West Activities Conference since its inaugural year in 2010.
Cimarron has been a member of the Hi-Plains League since the 1983-84 season. They are a Class 3A school in southwest Kansas. The sports they compete in include basketball, cross country, football, girls & boys golf, girls & boys tennis, track & field, volleyball and wrestling. They recently added baseball in softball. Activities include art, band, choir, forensics, and scholar’s bowl.
