Charles Lester “Les” Pelnar
Charles Lester “Les” Pelnar, 95, died July 21, 2016 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was born on June 12, 1921 to John Evan and Sarah Elizbeth Pelnar in Holcomb. He married Maebelle Walter on July 5, 1970. After her passing on May 29, 1997, he went on to marry Beverly Boyd on August 16, 1999.
He graduated from Sublette High School. During World War II, Charles served his country as a Staff Sergeant and worked as Airplane Mechanic for the U.S. Army Air Corps. He toured overseas and in Guam. After his military career, he went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree in Theology from Midwest Christian College. He continued his studies at Fort Hays State to achieve his Masters in Education. During his lifetime he worked the land as a farmer and was also an employee with Northern Natural Gas. Charles worked as a school guidance counselor and substitute teacher. He also served his lord through his work as a minister. He was member of Christian Church in Sublette for many years. He was currently a member of Southside Baptist Church in Stillwater.
Les is survived by his wife, Beverly (Boyd) Pelnar; step-sons, Wayne Walter Jr (Betty), D.W. Boyd (Jackie); step-daughter, DeeAnn Boyd-Ricker (Larry); ten step-grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Sarah (Craig) Pelnar; brothers, George, John, Jacob, and Robert Pelnar; sisters, Myrtle Irene, Josephine Cunningham and Margie Deaton; his first wife, Maebelle (Walter) Pelnar; step-son, Jerry Walter.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, Oklahoma. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.
