Catherine Lorene (Cramer) Waterson

Catherine Lorene (Cramer) Waterson passed away May 16, 2016 at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born October 13, 1926 in Dighton, Kansas to Eva (Yates) and Clarence Cramer. She was a life-long resident of Dighton, having lived for the past 55 years across the street from where her childhood residence had been located. Although they had both attended Lane County High School, it was at the University of Kansas that she began dating her future husband, Delmar G. Waterson. They were married September 4, 1949 and formed a union that would last until his passing in 2008, just a few months before their 60th wedding anniversary.
Musically inclined, Catherine played violin in the high-school orchestra, cornet in the high-school band, and piano and organ for the First Methodist Church. In addition to raising two children, Catherine was involved in several community organizations including Sewing Club, As You Like It, and Eastern Star. She had several jobs in her lifetime, including working at the ASC office, the Lane County Hospital, and helping her husband run the Gambles Hardware store. One of her most significant roles was being the “other good hand” that allowed Delmar to pursue his love of model trains and radio-controlled airplanes despite his war injuries. She was also a talented artist and avid reader.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by a sister, Nancy (Don) Friess, Dodge City, Kansas; her daughter, Jean (Eric) Bell, Wichita, Kansas; her son, Charles (Jane) Waterson, Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren, David (Wendy) Waterson, Wichita, Kansas; Lauren (Ryan) Griessmeyer, Verona, Wisconsin; Amy Bell, Wichita, Kansas; Catherine Bell, Ocala, Florida; and six great-grandchildren.
