Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-It’s been a whirlwind last 72 hours for the Buster football team. But on Tuesday, the powers that be shined some recognition on some of Garden City’s best and brightest.

Six Busters were named all-conference, with wide receiver Brandon Snell being the lone Garden City player on the first team.

Some could argue Snell had a down year (63 rec, 957 yards, 10 touchdowns) compared to his 72-catch, 842-yard, 10 touchdown freshman campaign in 2013. Still, the sophomore ranked in the top 10 in receptions,  yards and receiving yards per game. He hauled in a season-high nine balls for 144 yards in Garden City’s season-opening win over Highland.

Freshman tackle, Anferney Turner, who was one of seven main players lost to season-ending injuries, and running back Matt McDonald were honorable mentions. The backup tailback, who was forced into duty when Undre Williams blew out his knee in the Hutch game, scored three touchdowns in the first two games. But he failed to reach the end zone in his final seven contests.

On defense, linebacker Alex Neuschafer garnered second-team honors. The former Cimarron star, recorded a team-best 61 tackles, three sacks and two fumble recoveries.

Defensive tackle Ben Harper and safety Sam Green were named honorable mentions. Green, who had a very slow start to his sophomore season, came on strong-finishing third on the team with 45 stops and one interception.
