Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-When Ryan Turner made the decision to be closer to his daughters, it left the Buster track program with a massive hole. On Friday, that hole was filled with another promising young man.

Matt High was officially named the new men’s and women’s track and cross country coach at Garden City Community College during a press conference inside the Hall of Fame Room.

“I was a little hesitant to commit at first,” High said when asked why he chose Garden City. “But then I got off the plane and was greeted by Dan (Delgado), Colin (Lamb) and Ryan (Ruda). I was instantly convinced.”

High comes to Garden City after spending a year as the track coach at Richard Bland College of William and Mary in Petersburg, VA. Before that, he served as the Athletics Director for the City of Sunny Isles Beach in Miami, Fl. High has also had coaching stop sat Virginia Intermont College, East Tennessee State, Stephen F. Austin and the University of Connecticut.

The new coach is also an accomplished athlete himself-having qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
