El Dorado, KS (www.westernkansas news.com) – There was a glimmer of hope in the second meeting for the Busters in the second meeting on the season with the #2 Butler Grizzlies, but it vanished in a hurry in the 2nd half as the Grizzlies scored quick and often to beat the Busters 58-17. It looked as though Garden City would take advantage of an early Grizzly fumble at the Butler 25 yard line, but could not convert on four straight plays to get a first down or a score. On the very next series for the Grizzlies, they would get a 5 play 75 yard drive for the score that culminated with a 58 yard touchdown pass to Jacob Hurla, the PAT was good and Butler was off and running at 7-0.

On the next offensive series for the Busters they would drive down field on a 12 play 52 yard drive but missed a 28 yard field goal attempt by freshmen Tyler Petersen. After a rare three and out for Butler, the Busters would come right back on 12 play 59 yard drive and Petersen would connect on a 33 yard field goal making it a 7-3 game at the end of one quarter. Then it was a couple more scores in the 2nd quarter for the Grizzlies with a 45 yard touchdown run by Derrick Thomas and another 39 yard touchdown reception by Hurla and Butler was in control 21-7. Garden City had another very good drive late inthe 2nd quarter with a 13 play 83 yard drive that ended with a 3 yard touchdown catch by freshmen Rod Coleman, Petersen added the PAT and at the break it was a 21-10 game.

The 2nd half belonged to the Grizzlies, as they scored on five straight possessions, but Garden City would score on their 2nd offensive series of the 3rd quarter making it a 28-17 game, but from that point on it was all Butler with the final score at 58-17. The season ends for the Busters on 2012 with a resurgence back in to the top four of the Jayhawk Conference with a 6-4 overall record and 4-3 in Conference. 2nd year Head Coach Jeff Tatum comments on the season and the sophomores that have really been the catalyst for the turn around from the 2-7 season a year.
