Buster Women Beat Bethel to Win Opener in Dodge City

gccc bethel 11-21

Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)  The Garden City Community College Women’s Basketball team (5-3) did not face their best opponent Friday in the opener of the Pizza Classic at the Civic Center in Dodge City, but as Coach Nick Salazar said before the game, the best thing was for them to get back on the bike and ride again.

Highlights

After blowing a 12 point lead in losing to Otero Tuesday night 83-81, GCCC took out their frustrations on Bethel’s JV team winning 86-51.  Salazar put the win in perspective.

Five Broncbusters scored in double figures led by Losha Morris’ 17 points and nine rebounds.  Morris, Shontera Williams and Tashawnya Edwards each had nine rebounds each and GCCC outrebounded the Threshers 54-39. Taleah Williams finished with 16 points and 5 rebounds, but Salazar was pleased the each of his players contributed to this win.

The Broncbuster forced 20 turnovers while only allowing 11 and have won five of their last six games.

Garden City plays another Junior Varsity team Saturday when they meet Sterling College.  Pre-game begins at 12:45pm with the tip-off at 1pm on Today’s KBUF-AM 1030 and westernkansasnews.com.
