Buster Volleyball tames Dodge
Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Nothing beats taking down your arch-rival. It makes it even sweeter to win and end a four-game losing streak.
Taylor Winchester had 11 kills and Chinasa Ekweariri recorded six blocks as Garden City Community College lassoed Dodge City 25-18, 25-13, 25-18 Monday night at the Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex.
“We’ve obviously been struggling the past few weeks,” Winchester said. “So this game was definitely a booster. We could have played way better, but I think overall-just getting our tempo and our flow down is what won the game.”
Flow could definitely describe the second set, where the Busters dashed any Lady Conquistador hopes-racing to a double-digit victory.
“We didn’t make a lot of errors,” Head Coach Harvey Sanders said. “We served the ball well; we almost stumbled in that third set again until we refocused and finished with some blaze.”
That final frame did get rather interesting when an error cut the Buster lead to four at 22-18. But Garden City (2-10, 1-3) reeled off three straight points to close the match out.
“It was nice to see us put it all together tonight,” Sanders said. “We need to take care of our jobs; being solid and making sure that we’re paying attention to the right things.”
That focus needs to come into clear view now with #11 Hutchinson coming to town on Wednesday.
“I’m glad we have them at home first,” Sanders said. “That way we can challenge them and really put some pressure on them. I think if we play a focused game like tonight, we’ll have a chance.”
The loss drops Dodge City to 1-11 and 0-3 in conference play.
