Buster soccer falls on the road

Trinidad, CO (westernkansasnews.com)-The first road test of the 2014 season didn’t go as planned for first-year women’s soccer coach Charles Long. Trinidad State added two insurance goals in the final 20 minutes to beat Garden City Monday afternoon 4-1.

“The better team definitely won today,” Long said after the match. “But I’m proud of how the girls played.”

The final result didn’t come without controversy. The game was delayed 45 minutes because the officials were late. When they did arrive, it was learned that only one was certified.

“At least three of their goals were offsides,” Long said. “But what do you do.”

Protesting the loss is definitely a start; especially when two Trinidad students were used as sideline officials.

The Trojans netted goals in the third, 25th, 70th and 80th minutes. The Busters countered with their lone score in the 12th minute-a Saundra Mendoza goal on a setup from Guadalupe Cordova.

Buster goalie Ashlie Rojas recorded 15 saves.
