Buster Men take care of Kansas Wesleyan JV

Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Garden City Broncbuster men’s basketball team closed out their non-conference slate Tuesday night at home against Kansas Wesleyan JV. While the Busters were the favorites, they were pushed at times by the Coyotes. In the end, Garden City proved to be too much in the end, winning 97-75 to improve to 4-0 on the year.

After Kansas Wesleyan JV scored the opening points of the game, the Busters rattled off seven straight to go up 7-2. The Coyotes scored the next five to tie the game at 7, which would be the last tie of the game.

After Kansas Wesleyan JV (0-3) pulled to within 21-17 with 10:32 remaining in the half, Garden City separated themselves from the Coyotes with an 18-3 run over the next six minutes to lead 39-22 with 4:27 remaining in the first half. The Busters would grow their lead to 51-28 at intermission, closing the half on a 6-0 run.

Garden City used another big run in the second half, with a 10-2 run to go up 72-39 with 14:21 left. Their biggest lead would be at 80-46 near the midway point of the second half.

Kansas Wesleyan JV clawed their way back with a 15-7 run to close the game, but the Busters proved to be too much.

Four Busters were in double figures, led by Theo Holloway, Elvis Harvey and Jeff Otchere with 14 points, while Jamir Thomas had another double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Garden City shot 54% from the floor and had 23 assists in the contest, and out-rebounded Kansas Wesleyan JV 41-18

Jakobe Wiley led all scorers with 17 points, all in the second half, while Baylor Melchiori added 15 and Kain Mack added 11 for the Coyotes. They shot 41% for the game and were 17-18 from the free throw line.

Garden City will begin conference play on Saturday at Butler.
