Buster men pound Kingdom Prep
Liberal, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Make it six straight wins for the Garden City Buster men, as they thumped Kingdom Prep Friday afternoon at The Green House in Liberal 109-73 in their second meeting of the season.
The first half was contested tightly, as the Busters ended up taking a 50-45 halftime lead. They would lead by as many as 12 in the first half, before Kingdom prep would cut the lead to two on a pair of occasions. Garden City would use an 8-5 run to take the five-point lead at intermission.
In the second half, the Busters used runs of eight on two occasions, seven and six straight points, and built up the 36-point margin, which would end up being the final one. After giving up 45 first half points, Garden City clamped down on defense in the second half and allowed only 28 points, while increasing their point total from a 50-point half to 59 in the final 20 minutes of play.
Garden City (9-2) finished with five players in double figures, led by Reuben King’s 26 points. King had 22 in the second half, and connected on all nine shots, including four three-pointers. Jeremy Wilson added 21, while Jade Cathey chipped in 13, D’Shon Taylor 11 and Talan Whitaker had 10. The Busters shot 56% from the field for the game, and out-rebounded the Kings 49-26.
Kingdom Prep had three in double figure scoring, led by Mike Warren with 22 points, followed by Alex Nijieb with 18 and Liban Hissan with 11.
Up next for the Busters is their second meeting of the season with Sunrise Christian Saturday afternoon on day two of the 2013 Seward County Pizza Hut Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 pm
