Dodge City, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – It was the final games of the first round of Jayhawk Conference action at the United Wireless Arena in Dodge City on Sunday afternoon, and Garden City Community College teams split with the Conqistadors. The No. 12 Lady Busters were not explosive but did not waste much time in asserting themselves on the 7-13 Lady Conqs, as the Garden City took control late in the first half holding on to a 33-19 lead at the break. In the 2nd half it was balanced scoring and very good pressure defense that propelled the Lady Busters to their 20th win on the season beating the Lady Conqs 62-43. Garden City had two double-doubles in the game, as sophomores Tamara Jones and Deni Jacobs both had the doubles, Jones with 20 points and 15 boards, Jacobs dropped 17 points and collected 11 rebounds and sophomore Tahlia Pope added 11 for the victory. The Lady Busters move to 20-2 on the season and 6-2 in the Jayhawk West.

For the Garden City men it was much the same story as it has been in several games on the season, as they played well early taking a lead, but could not hang on and had many scoring droughts. The Buster men dropped their 4th straight game in the 69-62 loss to Dodge City last night at the United Wireless Arena. Two players led the scoring for the Busters, as freshmen Jade Cathey threw down 18 and 12 rebounds, Chris Hall chipped in 16 and post player Joe Ebondo grabbed 12 boards. The loss drops Garden City to 10-12 on the season and 2-6 in Conference play. Head Coach Rand Chappell commented in the post game about his players effort but disappointed in the consistency in their game.
