Buffs wrestling tops Liberal

Garden City wrestling coach Carlos Prieto had seen this story before.
Despite being down five starters, Garden City persevered in a 33-25 victory over Liberal on Thursday night.
“We don’t make excuses; we never have,” Prieto said afterwards. “But when guys go down, others have to step up. We did that tonight.”
Garden City wrestled without Sion Audrain (106), Andres Sanchez (113), Kaj Perez (120) and Jesse Nunez (170). 145-pounder Curtis Near is still sidelined by an injury.
Still the Buffaloes won nine of the 13 matches, including the last three by Alec Castillo (152), Rico Cherico (160) and Adrian Dominguez (170).
